About Us

Intro:

Hailing from the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, Dial Denial love who they are and what they do & are dedicated young musicians who want to write songs that resonate with people & aspire to entertain and bring fans on their journey through their music.

“We’re a band who put passion, energy and emotion into our music that we love creating. We combine teen angst and common life experiences with a stupid sense of humour. Our live shows involve a lot of jumping around, head banging, hair flicking and a high-energy show. We also poke a lot of fun at each other and love crowd interaction as well as all of our fans who continually support our journey, they are an absolute blessing to us and we couldn’t be more grateful for them.”

History:

Connecting at Big Music School & Studios and driven by common music interests and goals, Dial Denial was formed. It was clear from the very beginning of their venture into original songwriting that they all just clicked and had a unique bond and style. Meeting on a weekly basis, Dial Denial have recorded and released 14 songs including 2 EP’s as well as having played festivals and gigs interstate and Dial Denial have opened for bands such as Hockey Dad, The Rions, Bugs and Bakers Eddy.

Quotes about the band:

  • Hockey Dad: “Awesome job, love the energy on stage, you guys put on a hell of a performance!”
  • Isabella Manfredi: “Dial Denial, they remind me of a young Midnight Oil.”
  • Happy Mag: “Dial Denial, who may be young but damn, they put on a fiery show. They know how to work the stage, how to play a huge guitar solo, and their originals were tight as a nail.”
  • David Ruby Howe: (Triple J) “Pretty epic turn from Dial Denial on this latest track. They pair some frenzied playing with a cinematic finish like 00s punk bands doing the Friday Night Lights OST.”
  • David Ruby Howe: (Triple J) “Scrappy punk energy with those lyrics that'll feel like a dog whistle for all misanthropes out there.”

Goals:

Although they couldn’t be happier with their strong start at a young age, Dial Denial are setting their sights on a professional music career. Whilst short-term goals include keeping the live gigs rolling, writing songs that resonate with people, establishing themselves and building up their fan base, long term they’re planning to make a worldwide positive impact with their music, tour the world with other famous artists and continue doing what they do best which is playing and releasing music. In the future Dial Denial set their sights on providing mentoring and performing opportunities to future generations of musicians.

On a more personal note:

Vocalist and lyricist, Fergus (Gus) Harley-Macdonald, originally started his musical journey as a drummer but quickly wanted to become a singer after being inspired by the lyrics of Gerard Wey (My Chemical Romance). Gus’ lyrics started out as being political views on world situations or self-experiences but now, he is looking to combine these foundations with comedy, stories and life experiences and his teenage years to ultimately provide meaningful lyrics that resonate with people. He is musically inspired by bands such as Neck Deep, My Chemical Romance and Slipknot and takes inspiration from his favourite singer, Corey Taylor (Slipknot).

Owen Borg, lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, has been practically playing music his whole life. Starting at the age of 5 with piano but drawn to the guitar at age 6, he is driven by the desire to play and write music, often as an obsession, never wanting to put the guitar down. Owen loves performing, meeting new people and writing music that resonates with the audience. Musical influences include Periphery, Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic and Neck Deep. Owen’s favourite guitarists are Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen and Mark Holcomb from Periphery, Nita Strauss, Slash, Eddie Van Halen and Plini.

Caleb Strawbridge, rhythm guitarist and vocalist, is the newest addition to Dial Denial, joining the band in November 2021 before being officially announced on Jan 1st 2022. Caleb takes a lot of his inspiration from bands such as Spacey Jane, Sticky Fingers, Hockey Dad and Ocean Alley. Whilst Caleb’s main role in the band is playing rhythm guitar and expanding the horizon for Dial Denial with an extra guitar, Caleb is best known as a vocalist and his combination with Fergus and Owen will leave your jaws on the floor.

Originally picking up the guitar at an early age and transitioning to bass at the age of 12, bassist Bailey Pike takes his musical inspiration from bands such as Neck Deep, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blink 182. He might be the most laid-back you’ll ever meet but when he gets on stage he can sure pump out a groove. His favourite bassists are Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and Mark Hoppus (Blink 182).

Drummer, Justin Borg, loves performing live and loves to joke around and make people laugh. He is inspired by the music of Neck Deep, Sum 41, Slipknot & Machine Gun Kelly and his favourite drummers include Dani Washington (Neck Deep), Travis Barker (Blink 182) and Joey Jordison (Slipknot). Whilst being the youngest member of Dial Denial, he sure can play awesome grooves and incredible fills!
